Anthropic builds sales playbook around AI workflows, not just chat interfaces

Eleanor Dorfman, leading Anthropic's commercial and industries team, shared the company's enterprise sales approach at SaaStr AI 2026. The playbook: layer AI workflows into existing stacks rather than force migration to chat-only interfaces. Three execs from different companies landed on the same primitive: skills-based orchestration beats binary implementation choices.

The Playbook

Anthropics's enterprise sales strategy is built around a concept Eleanor Dorfman, Head of Commercial and Industries, calls "skills." The idea: instead of forcing buyers to choose between chat interfaces or dedicated UI, layer AI capabilities into the tools teams already use.

Dorfman shared the approach at SaaStr AI 2026 alongside Sharif Mansour (Atlassian's Head of AI) and Rory O'Driscoll (Scale Venture Partners). Different companies, different stages, same conclusion: the binary choices around AI implementation (chat vs. UI, reimagine vs. bolt-on, agents vs. humans) are mostly false.

What Anthropic is Selling

The commercial motion centres on workflow proximity. Atlassian's data backs this: millions of users run their Rover chat daily despite also running Claude and Gemini separately. People reach for the AI closest to where they work.

For sales teams, this matters because it changes the pitch. You are not selling model superiority or asking prospects to rip out their stack. You are selling orchestration: the thin layer that turns a raw model into something a business can operationalise across existing systems.

The ANZ Angle

Anthropics is scaling enterprise coverage globally under Chris Ciauri (formerly Google Cloud and Salesforce EMEA), but its exact ANZ footprint is unclear. The company recently added Jonathan Jager-Hyman (Head of Industries) and Ian Brandon (Head of Industries, Mid-Market), signalling a segmented sales org that mirrors enterprise software maturity.

Dorfman has led commercial for roughly 18 months. Before that, Anthropic was still in research mode. Now it is hiring GTM roles and competing directly with OpenAI and Google on enterprise deals.

Why This Matters

If you are selling AI tooling into the enterprise, the playbook shift is real. Buyers are not choosing between reimagining their entire stack or ignoring AI. They are layering capabilities into Jira, Confluence, Salesforce, wherever workflows already live. Your pitch needs to account for that, and your comp model probably should too.

Anthropics is building this playbook while hiring. Watch the Industries and Mid-Market roles. That is where the enterprise AE expansion sits.
