Your enterprise AE role is morphing into a hybrid sales-product specialist position, and most of you aren't ready.

B2B Sellers Who Can't Work a Digital Channel Will Be Obsolete by 2027

Half of B2B revenue moving to digital channels by 2026 isn't a prediction anymore. It's already happening, and ANZ sales teams are pretending it won't affect them.

Here's what that 52% digital revenue split actually means for your job: the enterprise AE who lives on the phone and hates CRM updates is done. Finished. The market doesn't need you anymore.

Digital commerce isn't about closing deals in Slack instead of Zoom. It's about customers researching, trialling, and buying without ever speaking to you. Your role shifts from relationship owner to product specialist who occasionally talks to humans.

The winners? AEs who understand digital customer journeys, can navigate their own company's e-commerce platform, and know when to step in versus when to let the digital motion run. The ones tracking what prospects do in the product trial before the first call. The ones who can actually explain technical integration points without forwarding to a solutions engineer.

ANZ makes this harder, not easier. Companies here struggle with time zones and logistics that their US counterparts sorted years ago. Your prospects expect Amazon-level digital experience but you're selling through a clunky portal built in 2019. Internet speeds in parts of ANZ mean your "seamless digital experience" loads like dial-up.

The comp hasn't caught up yet either. Digital-assisted sales roles pay less than pure enterprise AE positions, even though they require more technical skill. Expect that gap to close violently over the next 18 months as companies realise digital AEs drive higher margins.

What to do: If your current role involves zero interaction with your company's digital commerce platform, you're already behind. Start now. Learn how customers buy without you. Understand the product trial flow. Figure out which deals need human intervention and which don't.

The market doesn't care that you prefer relationship selling. The commission checks will stop arriving whether you adapt or not.
