What shipped
Block released Buzz, an open-source workplace platform that combines chat, workflows, and code repositories. Available as a free desktop download for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Block's own documentation still describes it as unfinished or in testing.
The core angle: AI agents participate directly in team conversations alongside humans. You can invite specialised AI agents into chats where they collaborate with employees and other agents. From there, teams can move from discussion into planning, coding, and pull requests without switching apps.
What this means for sales teams
Not much yet. There is no visible CRO, VP Sales, or go-to-market team. No enterprise sales motion. This is an engineering-led product launch, not a commercial rollout.
The target user is developers and technically sophisticated teams, not mainstream enterprise buyers. Block is positioning this as a Slack plus GitHub alternative, which puts it in competition with collaboration suites and AI-native workplace platforms.
For sales orgs evaluating collaboration tools: Buzz is interesting if your team lives in code repos and you want AI agents in the workflow. If you are running a standard SaaS sales motion with Salesforce and outbound sequences, this is not built for you.
The Block context
Block (Square, Cash App, Afterpay, Bitkey, Tidal) built this to reduce internal dependence on Slack and GitHub. It reflects Jack Dorsey's broader push toward decentralized, open-source software. No separate fundraising round, this is a product launch from an existing company.
Public reporting does not identify ANZ headcount, local office presence, or region-specific traction for Buzz.
Worth noting
Open-source positioning means adoption will likely come from developer communities first, enterprise sales later (if at all). The lack of a visible sales org suggests Block is testing this internally and with early adopters before deciding whether to commercialise.
If you are evaluating AI workplace platforms for a sales team, the mature options are still Slack with AI add-ons or purpose-built sales collaboration tools. Buzz is early, unfinished, and aimed at a different buyer.
