The Numbers
Heidi Health cut 108 roles this week, roughly 18% of its ~600-person workforce. That puts headcount at around 492 after the restructure.
Six weeks ago, the Melbourne clinical AI company closed US$100 million Series C (led by Blackbird) plus a US$240 million growth facility from General Catalyst. Valuation: A$1.26 billion. Total funding to date: A$613.4 million.
ARR sits at about US$50 million as of April 2026, up from US$1 million two years prior. The platform handles roughly 2.8 million patient visits per week across 190 countries.
Leadership Changes
Cofounder Waleed Mussa (finance, compliance, corporate affairs) is out. Cofounder Yu Liu (CTO) is moving to an advisory role focused on models and hardware. Dr Thomas Kelly remains CEO.
Kelly told staff the cuts followed a review of where to direct investment: "bringing more customer support into product, bringing R&D together in one roadmap and giving our new product businesses clearer ownership and dedicated teams."
What This Means for Sales
Heidi is scaling from Australia into global healthcare software. Recent funding was earmarked for hospitals and health systems, suggesting an enterprise motion.
Competitive set includes Abridge, Nabla, Microsoft Dragon Copilot and Suki. Available reporting does not disclose Heidi's sales team size, customer acquisition costs, or revenue breakdown by geography.
Worth noting: this restructure lands the same week Canva cut 22% of its workforce (1,270 roles). Both are Melbourne-based, both recently raised significant capital, both are citing strategic realignment.
Context: 2024-2026 Tech Layoffs
Heidi joins a long list of funded startups cutting headcount post-raise. The pattern: rapid growth funded by cheap capital, followed by workforce reductions as companies align burn with sustainable unit economics.
Sales teams at funded startups have been particularly exposed. When headcount cuts hit 15-20%, quota-carrying roles often take the brunt as companies shift from land-grab to efficient growth.
The question for sales professionals: what does "strategic realignment" actually mean for go-to-market headcount? Heidi has not disclosed whether the 108 cuts include quota-carrying AEs, SDRs, or customer success roles. That breakdown matters.
The Pattern
Funding does not equal job security. Companies raise large rounds, hire aggressively, then restructure when growth assumptions miss reality. If you are evaluating a role at a recently funded startup, ask about quota relief periods, historical attainment, and whether the hire is backfill or net-new headcount expansion.
Heidi's revenue growth is strong (US$1m to US$50m ARR in two years). But 18% cuts six weeks after a $475m raise signal a mismatch between headcount plans and actual go-to-market execution.
